The final week and exam day
You've covered every domain. This last chapter is about converting knowledge into a pass on the day, and what comes next.
Are you ready?
You're likely ready when:
- You consistently score above about 80% on full-length, timed practice exams from reputable sources.
- You can explain why each wrong option is wrong, not just which option is right.
- You can sketch the real-world architectures from memory.
- No domain is consistently weak.
The final week
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 7–5 days before | One full timed practice exam per day; review every question; note weak topics |
| 4–3 days | Revisit weak chapters; redo the scenario practice questions |
| 2 days | Cheat sheet and design-domain chapters; light hands-on refresh |
| 1 day | Light review only; prepare logistics; sleep well |
Booking and logistics
- Book through the AWS Certification portal (Pearson VUE) — test centre or online proctored.
- Online: test your system beforehand, use a quiet, clear room, valid ID, stable internet; no notes, second monitor or interruptions.
- If English isn't your first language, AWS may offer an accommodation for extra time (ESL +30 minutes) — request it before booking.
- Bring/prepare acceptable identification matching your registration name.
During the exam
- Read the last sentence first to find the qualifier (cost, overhead, availability, security).
- Underline requirements mentally: numbers, "must", "without changing the application".
- Eliminate answers that violate any requirement.
- Choose the most managed, simplest option that meets everything.
- Spend about 2 minutes per question; flag and move on when stuck.
- Review flagged questions in the remaining time; change an answer only with a clear reason.
- Answer every question — there's no penalty for guessing.
Unscored questions are mixed in. If a question seems bizarre or about something you've never heard of, give it your best guess and move on — it may not count.
Results
You'll usually see a provisional pass/fail soon after finishing, with the official result and score report within a few business days. The report shows performance per domain — useful for planning your next learning, but remember the scoring is compensatory.
After you pass
- Add the certification to LinkedIn and your résumé (with the credential link).
- Keep building — certifications open doors; projects and stories close offers.
- Next certifications to consider:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional — complex multi-account, migration and cost scenarios.
- Developer – Associate or SysOps Administrator / CloudOps Engineer – Associate — deeper build or operations skills.
- Specialty / AI-focused certifications — security, networking, machine learning, depending on your path.
- The certification is valid for three years; recertify by passing the current version (or a higher-level exam in the same path).
The exam rewards one habit above all: pick the simplest managed design that satisfies every stated requirement. That's also what makes a good architect in real life.
Good luck — and enjoy building.
